Untold Archives (“the App”), operated at untoldarchives.app, is an educational application that delivers AI-assisted historical story cards. The App is designed to spark curiosity about lesser-known historical events and serve as a starting point for deeper exploration.

The App is available as a mobile application (iOS and Android) and as a web application. Features may vary between platforms.

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the App. In the European Economic Area, the minimum age is 16 unless a member state has provided for a lower age (which shall not be below 13). By using the App, you represent that you meet the applicable minimum age requirement.

If you are under the age of 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

You may use some features of the App without an account. To access the full experience (including syncing across devices, journal entries, and subscription features), you may create an account using:

• Email and password
• Apple Sign-In (OAuth)
• Google Sign-In (OAuth)

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You agree to notify us promptly of any unauthorised use of your account. We are not liable for any loss resulting from unauthorised access to your account.

Stories, images, and journal prompts in Untold Archives are generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence (Anthropic Claude for text, OpenAI for images). While we employ fact-checking processes and editorial review:

• Content may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies.
• Content should not be cited as an academic or primary source.
• Images are artistic interpretations, not historical photographs or verified recreations.
• Content is intended for educational and entertainment purposes only.
• Always verify claims with primary sources before relying on them.

By using the App, you acknowledge and accept these limitations. We are not responsible for decisions made based on content in the App.

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App.
• Scrape, crawl, or extract content from the App in bulk or by automated means.
• Circumvent any access controls or attempt to access accounts other than your own.
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the App or its servers.
• Use the App to generate, distribute, or promote harmful, false, or misleading content.
• Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation.
• Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms.

All App content — including generated story text, images, UI design, and software — is the property of Untold Archives and its licensors. Historical facts themselves are not copyrightable, but our specific creative expression of them is protected.

You may share individual stories for personal, non-commercial use with attribution. You may not reproduce content in bulk, create competing products using our content, or claim our AI-generated content as your own original work.

Your journal entries are your own. You retain full ownership of what you write. We do not use your journal entries to train AI models or share them with third parties.

You are solely responsible for the content of your journal entries. Do not include sensitive personal information (financial details, government IDs, etc.) in journal entries.

If you opt in to push notifications, we may send you daily story reminders, streak reminders, and other App-related notifications. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or within the App.

We will not send you marketing or promotional notifications from third parties.

The App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any historical content provided through the App.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Untold Archives and its creators, officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the App — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or inaccurate historical information acted upon.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from or related to the App shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) five US dollars ($5.00).

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Untold Archives and its creators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, for any reason, including violation of these Terms. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time.

Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will continue to apply.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the App or via email if you have an account. The “Effective date” at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Untold Archives regarding your use of the App. These Terms supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
